Join La Escuela Freire's Growing List of Supporters

La Escuela Freire Academy for Culture, Leadership, and Civic Engagement has been a work in progress (several years now) by a dedicated team of volunteers who are passionate about the future of youth in Santa Ana. Along the way, we've incorporated a tremendous number of ideas from the Critical Friends who have helped shape the charter petition we'll soon present to SAUSD. Additionally, we're forming Community Partnerships with nonprofit organizations (and occasionally independent businesses) who share our values.

A few of LEF's Critical Friends:

• Don Cardinal, Dean, College of Educational Studies, Chapman University

• Amin David, Los Amigos of Orange County

• Zeke Hernandez, Vice President, Achievement Institute of Scientific Studies, Santa Ana

• Melanie Rios Glazier, Artistic and Executive Director, The Wooden Floor, Santa Ana

• Patricia Huerta, Founder, Padres Unidos, Santa Ana

• Ann De Vaney, Professor Emerita, University of Wisconsin-Madison; adjunct professor, UCI School of Education

• Anaida Colón-Muñiz, Associate Professor, College of Educational Studies, Chapman University

• José Moreno, Dept. Chair, Chicano and Latin American Studies, CSU Long Beach

• Jorge Torres Viveros, Director, Tlahuica Center for the Study of Language and Cultural Exchange, Mexico

• Judy Magsaysay, Former Principal, Pio Pico Elementary School, Santa Ana

Community Partners

La Escuela Freire welcomes our Community Partners! Many of our learning opportunities will incorporate the hands-on tackling of real community issues, so partnerships with local nonprofits (and occasionally small businesses) will be a crucial component of our high school. Our Community Partners will benefit from student involvement, and our students will, in turn, be enriched with skills and knowledge unique to the mission of each partner.

Several of our Community Partnerships are works in progress. Meanwhile, here's a partial list of partners:
